WoW Patch 9.1: How to activate the Hardmode in the Megadungeon Tazavesh

September 16, 2021

When we last reported on the hard mode of the new megadungeon Tazavesh from WoW patch 9.1

, the findings were still quite vague. There were isolated quests, spells and a Blizzard statement that hinted at a hard mode. Much more concrete is all that players have found out in recent weeks on the public test server.

Here are some of the most important findings in a nutshell:

  • The normal loot in Tazavesh has an item level of 226, while the hard mode loot will drop with an item level of 233.
  • There is a hard mode for all eight bosses, and you'll face brand new hard mode mechanics for each.
  • For example, in the first boss, Zo'phex, on Normal you'll have the opportunity to clear the area of Trash and the "Portalmancer Zo'honn" before the boss fight. In Hard Mode, however, you'll have to take on Zo'phex and Zo'hoon at the same time, and you'll have little room to maneuver as the area is limited by the groups of trash that you can't knock out in advance.
  • If you also defeat the final boss So'leah on hardmode, you will receive the Fake It 'Til You Make It achievement and the Mount Tazavesh Gearglider.
  • Hardmode must first be activated through several steps.

How to activate the Hardmode of Tazavesh

If you want to try out the hard mode in the new megadungeon, you need to complete the steps below:

  1. Defeat the first boss on normal.
  2. After the boss, go down the stairs on the right until you come across a questionable merchant in a hidden corner.
  3. Buy the Fraudulent Credentials necklace from the merchant.
  4. Head to the Oasis of Myza and complete the trade event there. Once you have the password, enter the next area.
  5. For the trade event, first talk to Xy'darid and buy his item from him.
  6. You will now have to take this and other items to brokers. Each broker is keen on a certain item. Xy'kitaab, for example, is into rare texts and is therefore receptive to Denathrius' Private Diary.
  7. You'll need to make a total of three trades to get the password. Have one player do the trading while the rest of the party takes care of the trash enemies.
  8. Do not enter the stage in the oasis. Instead, talk to Au'manal, who will offer you the Passably-Forged Credentials neckpiece for Fraudulent Credentials.
  9. The new neckpiece will give you the quest Tazavesh: A Hard Bargain.
  10. You will now need a fresh instance to tackle Hard Mode. The week you receive Passably-Forged Credentials, you will need another character to reset the instance. It is also important that you do not approach the "Customs officers" in the entrance area of the dungeon. When they start talking, the NPC Fe'tajid, who is responsible for the hardmode, will disappear. He too should now be in the entrance area of the dungeon. Activate Passably-Forged Credentials, which will turn you into a Broker, and talk to Fe'tajid. Click through the dialogue until he has nothing more to say and Hardmode is activated.
