WoW 9.1: First look at the fight against Sylvanas in the Sanctum of Domination

August 10, 2021

On 5/27/21, the boss fight against final boss Sylvanas in the Sanctum of Domination (heroic) could be tested for the first time on the PTR for patch 9.1 of WoW Shadowlands. Even though not everything went smoothly during the short tests, the tests at least gave a first glimpse into the final fight against the Banshee. Below you can see some clips of each stage from AutomaticJak's stream and a longer video from Kalamazi.

Table of Contents

  1. 1Phase1
  2. 2Phase1 Transition
  3. 3Phase2
  4. 4Phase3

Phase 1

Phase 1 is no fun for Melees, spellcasting classes with long-cast spells, and classes that need to pull AoE effects to a specific position. This is because Sylvanas jumps around the room extremely often. The main mechanic in phase 1 is chains of domination. You must dodge an AoE and see where the chains hit beforehand. After that, the players closest to the chains are chained and must run against the effect to avoid meeting their doom. The effect ends when the chains are destroyed.

The chains must be used strategically, using them to remove the stackable bleed effect triggered by hooked arrow - an instant attack that Sylvanas casts repeatedly.

Phase 1 Transition

In the intermediate phase, you'll get to deal with domination chains once again, and you'll have to dodge the big boulder from Rip Up, which will otherwise send you straight to the Spirit Healer

At the end of the first stage, a video sequence (placeholder video so far) awaits you and you are teleported to the Chains of Torghast. Jaina and Thrall will help you cross the chains. For most testers, this stage was the end.

Phase 2

Phase 2 takes place on the chains. Jaina will build you ice bridges, while Thrall will help you fight the Adds.

Phase 3

No guild has streamed Phase 3 of the boss fight yet. As we've known for some time, we're fighting Phase 3 on the Judge's platform in Oribos and the Dungeon Master is present.
