WoW: Interview with Holly Longdale about PvP and Phase 2 of TBC Classic

September 16, 2021

As we all know, an arena tournament for WoW: Burning Crusade Classic took place over the weekend. In the course of the tournament, PvP veteran and streamer Venruki had the opportunity to speak with Lead Producer Holly Longdale about upcoming PvP improvements and TBC Classic Phase 2. We had already highlighted a highlight info for you in an extra news: Phase 2 features are scheduled to land on the public test server this week

. Among them: two raids, two new quest hubs, the LFG tool, and guild banks.

We can also expect some tweaks and improvements to the PvP area beyond what we've been able to test out on the live servers over the past few days

(Horde versus Horde on the Battlegrounds, no raid logins, Alliance bonus). We've summarized the rest of what we learned from the conversation below - check out the stream recording here.
  • While Blizzard has the original reference client from 2007, it was not simply reused for the TBC Classic tournament servers. Instead, the developers have rebuilt the original code from back then and made sure that the gameplay from back then is preserved, even if not all mechanics from back then meet with the approval of all players (keyword: tornadoes in the Nagrand Arena).
  • On the live servers, the developers are now closely observing whether this old game feeling of yesteryear actually occurs, whether there are things that feel wrong or frustrate and whether there is a need for fine adjustments that can improve the overall game feel, but do not jeopardize the TBC Classic authenticity. Player feedback is an important factor here.
  • Whether or not there will be more TBC Classic Arena tournaments in the future is up to the Esports team at Blizzard.
  • With Phase 2 of TBC Classic, you should be able to see the rankings of the top 5,000 Arena teams. You should also be able to see at a glance who might qualify for the rewards at the end of the season - based on current standings.
  • In the near future, there should be more arena points for the respective scores than before.
  • Towards the end of PvP Season 1, the cost of PvP gear (Arena Points and Honor) will be reduced.
  • With the start of Season 2, Arena Points will be converted to Honor (approximately 10 Honor per Arena Point).
  • With Season 2, PvP gear should be available on Outland factions, which did not come in the original until Patch 2.4.
