WoW Patch 9.2.5: New Enigma Arena will not get moving columns after all

July 13, 2022

When the WoW developers at Blizzard announced a new arena for WoW Patch 9.2.5, the joy among PvP fans was great. Especially the possibility to move the columns within the so-called Enigma Arena by pressing a switch in the center of the arena caused a furor. However, the team has now removed exactly this feature.

Problems with gameplay mechanics mean the end for mechanics

In an official blue post, the developers explained their decision against the movable columns as follows:
"As we originally mentioned, we wanted to release the Enigma Arena with a unique mechanic, a central switch that allowed players to manipulate the positioning of the columns during a match
However, in implementing [this mechanic], we found some issues with wayfinding and lines of sight that could occasionally affect players and some of their class abilities.

However, in order to provide the best possible player experience and avoid potential moments of frustration, we decided to continue with the version that is currently available on the PTR of patch 9.2.5, which features a single column configuration that remains the same throughout a match. We currently plan to not pursue the original version [with the moving columns]."

Soon we will learn what changes Blizzard is planning for the final raid of WoW: Season of Mastery.

This means that the gameplay could apparently not be implemented satisfactorily with the moving columns, so the developers decided against this feature. We think this decision is quite understandable, but we still want to hear your opinion: What do you think about it? Are you disappointed that you now have to do without this unique mechanic in the arena? Or do you think the current PTR version is better anyway? Write us your opinion about it in the comments!
