WoW: Dragonflight: WTF?! There are ... Dragon sheep!

July 13, 2022

Little by little, more and more information about the upcoming WoW expansion Dragonflight is coming to light. Ion Hazzikostas and other developers reveal more about the story of the Dragon Isles, seasonal content and the origin of the Dracthyr. Players are, of course, particularly interested in the new race of Dracthyr

, who transform from their humanoid form into a dragon in battle, similar to Worgen.

A dragon race is something completely new in WoW and of course gives the developers a lot of new possibilities to visually change his Dracthyr with jewelry, scales, horns and so on. In an interview with the gaming website well-played, Blizzard's Associate Art Director Tina Wang and Senior Game Designer Jackie Wiley were able to tell us even more about the customization options for the Dracthyr, dragon riding and the influence of dragons on lifeforms in WoW: Dragonflight. For example, the dragons even have an effect on the appearance of sheep.... We have summarized the most important points of the interview for you below.

Dragon riding: Customization options for our dragon riding pets

  • Players will get not one, but several dragon companions to use with dragon riding (it sounds like one of each body type, so probably four).
  • As WoW's first customizable mount, everyone should feel like their dragon is completely unique, with an incredible number of adjustable parameters, including customizable snouts.
  • There are four different body types - Classic Dragon, Protodragon, Wyvern-like Wild Dragon, and a dinosaur-like Velocidrake - each with different animations and other customizations.
  • Customizations vary depending on body type - Wild Dragons have options for large, hairy manes. The Velocidrake can have antlers instead of horns and has the most options for snouts.
  • They all come in different colors and many options are unlocked throughout the game by completing content.
  • "Snoot" is now the official term in English for a dragon's snout (this is a very important point).

Dracthyr customization options

  • The "human" models of Dracthyr are called "Visage" forms in English and are the way they represent themselves, which allows a high level of customization.
  • Visage customization is independent of their dragon form - for example, you can have a pure white or pink dragon with a blue and gold visage form.
  • The Dracthyr also have the ability to drastically change their face shape and choose over 30 different hair colors, including two-tone colors, highlights, and unique jewelry options.

Stone dragons and other species of the Dragon Isles

  • The primary dragon swarms left the Dragon Isles ~10,000 years ago, but the place did not remain deserted - several other races inhabit it.
  • Familiar species include the Tuskarr, Gnolls, Draconids, the Dragonspawn, Dryads, Elementals, and a clan of Centaurs.
  • New faces include the half-giants Djaradin, Lavamammoths, and Titan Guardians like Koranos (aka "Rocky") from the Cinematic.
  • There will also be other types of dragons , including Stone Dragons, Thunder Dragons, and the Primalists - followers of Galakrond who have not sided with the Titans.
  • Although this is our first time, the Azerothian dragons also return, making Dragonflight a story of exploration and rediscovery.
  • The Explorers League and the Reliquary have teamed up to lead the expedition to the islands, which is called the Dragon Scale Expedition (but that doesn't mean you can't still PvP).

  • The Dragon Isles are larger than Northrend and have a large verticality.
  • The Dragon Isles were already planned in the original version of World of Warcraft (buy now ), but were never implemented.
  • There are even dragon sheep - which are still sheep, but in the form of dragons. This dragon influence can be felt everywhere.
  • Several areas are tied to specific dragon flights, such as the Emerald Garden and the Ruby Life Shrine.
  • The campaign begins at sea level on the Coast of Awakening and ends high up on the mountainous, floating platforms of Thaldraszus.
  • If you want to reach the late campaign areas, you'll need to be good at dragon riding to get around - it's a central part of the world design.
