WoW: Crazy - Korthia is really fun without timegating

Korthia and the associated new faction were implemented with patch 9.1. The archivist codex was intended to provide a kind of catch-up gear, while at the final level you could earn socket slots and media upgrades, which was especially interesting for players in the endgame.

However, the Korthian gear wasn't really a catch-up, because the grind was much too tedious and the item level was set much too low on the first levels. If you wanted to stay on the ball as a raider and mythic-plus player, you had to get the most out of the archivist codex every day.

This meant visiting the Maw area every day, completing all the quests, collecting all the Invasive Maw mushrooms and crates, and constantly scouting for rare mobs that could appear in different places on the map. In addition, you had to visit the rifts, where you could stay for a maximum of 15 minutes and collect the few treasures there.

Those who had their maw mushrooms and crates snatched away from under their noses, or those who just missed the rare mobs, either had to run around in circles in Korthia for longer or resign themselves to less loot. It wasn't really fun and the way to rank 6 and thus the socket and media upgrades was very tedious. And even those who were done with the reputation grind had to keep doing their rounds endlessly every day for relic fragments to be able to buy the expensive upgrades. Fortunately, patch 9.1.5 has finally changed that.

Patch 9.1.5 brought redemption

You can now get significantly more relic fragments. The best way to do this is to enter the Riss World with a group and hunt the Starved Dark Ones, as we already showed in the article about it. All of a sudden, there is a method to effectively maximize your reputation within a short period of time and enjoy faction rewards.

Blizzard held on to timegating
For a while now, Blizzard has been of the opinion that timegating and FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) can be used to retain players in the long term. But that won't work in 2021. The players would rather leave than go through a pointless grind. Except for the hardcore raiders, hardly anyone wants to collect a grain of rice every day to get their reward at the end. There is a certain logic behind baiting players with the carrot on the stick to keep them playing for weeks and months. However, the changes in patch 9.1.5 show that players invest even more time and have even more fun. Even high-end raiders from Limit and Echo are completing their media collection these days because the grind is much easier now.

The group in the linked video got several crack keys to farm rare mobs four times in a row for 15 minutes each. The video creator is not playing with his main character, but with twinks. And with so much fun to be had, this certainly won't be the last group of Twinks the troupe goes out with. All of a sudden, players have a goal in mind again and can set new goals that previously seemed unattainable or too costly due to timegating.

In the meantime, many players have been following up with Twinks and can now enjoy Korthia to the fullest. This means they repeat the content with several characters instead of one. This way, they finally equip their Twinks with halfway decent gear, and raiders who previously weren't after a full collection of media upgrades complete their collection and become a few percent stronger as well.

This motivates players much more than if they had to surrender to the boring Korthia grind of pre-patch 9.1.5 every day. Removing timegating causes players to equip multiple characters, more players venture steps into mythic dungeons, motivated.

It's crazy that WoW is suddenly being played more when players are having fun. Dear Blizzard team, no need to keep players in line with timegating.
