World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Guide: Blackrock Caverns - How to Complete the Instance

February 18, 2021

The Blackrock Caverns is one of the first instances in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. There is no way around it if you want to get your hero to level 85. The guide to the Blackrock Caverns tells you how to do it unscathed.

In the Blackrock Caverns guide for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, we start with the preparations for the instance. What do you need? What do you need to know? Before you enter the Blackrock Caverns, you need to explore the entrance. You can find it in the eastern Blackrock on the way to the upper Blackrock Spire. Alternatively, you can speak to Finkle Unicorn on Mount Hyjal, who will give you the quickest route to the instance. In the instance, he will also give you a quest for each of the five bosses. You should definitely not forget to turn in the quests via auto-questing immediately after completing them, otherwise you won't be able to take the follow-up quests. In addition to the tank and healer, your damage dealers should have enemy control capabilities. In the instance, you will encounter primarily humanoid enemies. Later on, you will have to deal with elementals, which are taken care of by sorcerers or shamans, for example. Of course, the better your equipment, the more sparingly you can use enemy control options.

Rom'ogg Bone Crusher
Before you have to deal with Rom'ogg Bonebreaker, there are some trashmobs waiting for you. When you pull the boss, he calls allies to help you. With their support a victory against the boss is hardly possible. The trashmobs are exclusively humanoid in nature. Therefore you can temporarily kill them with control effects without any problems. The mages shoot mainly with Frostbolts, but are otherwise no danger. While the prisoners are hard on melee, the Twilight Flame Callers do area damage with their blast and flame call. The most dangerous, however, are the Torturers and the Sadists. These are the ones you should go after first. It's best to drag the standard enemies towards the passageway through which you entered Rom'ogg's lair - the chances of you accidentally drawing Rom'ogg's attention are slim.

Rom'ogg Bonebreaker already gives you a glimpse of Cataclysm's new combat mechanics, where playful mistakes can quickly lead to serious consequences. The "wounding blow" reduces the effectiveness of your healing spells on the tank by 25 percent. Especially with slightly worse equipment, you'll quickly run into mana problems. Furthermore, the boss casts a "quake" at regular intervals, which causes additional group damage. You can run out of this. Rom'ogg uses his main ability, Skullcracker, at 66 and 33 percent of his hit points. When he does so, he pulls all players into melee range, and twelve seconds later, he beats everything within 20 yards to a pulp. Unfortunately, he ties you up with the "Chains of Sorrow," through which you cannot move. Destroy the chains and try to get away as quickly as possible so as not to suffer any losses. Once you have won the battle, Raz the Mad will free himself from his cage and help you with some groups of enemies as the instance progresses. What happens next in the Blackrock Caves?
